Does Yaktrax work black ice?
Yaktrax® devices are not intended for use on gravel, concrete, or sanded roads cleared of snow, as these do not allow the coils to compress properly, resulting in damage. Black ice is frozen atmospheric moisture which occurs in the absence of precipitation.
Are Yaktrax good on ice?

Are yak tracks the same as Microspikes?
Just looking at the two products side-by-side, you can tell that Microspikes will be grippier than Yaktrax. The 9.55mm spikes “bite” the solid ice better than Yaktrax 1.2mm steel coils. Microspikes are also made of stainless steel, which is stronger than the steel alloy used in Yaktrax.
How should Microspikes fit?
Microspikes fit over both my hiking boots and my running shoes. When you're sizing your own pair, they should be as snug as possible around your shoes. If you can, try them on in person if you can and make sure they fit all the pairs of shoes you want to put them over.
Can you use Microspikes on rocks?
Microspikes work best with snow and mixed ice and rock. With smaller points, they'll put up with mixed travel on rock better than crampons. However when snow hardens or you face hard ice for significant periods, microspikes lose their usefulness.
